Celebrating what works (and also what didn’t)

Celebrate
Crashing, instead of easing, skidding, not relaxing into the final weekends of the year? That’s a bit how it’s feeling for me. Anyone else?
.
Not surprised if you’re a yes. It’s been a common theme with my clients and friends—feeling like the unrelenting pace of the year has yet to, well, relent.
.
And this is coming to you on December 23, 2022, very nearly the end of the calendar year.
.
I can no longer count how many times I have said I can’t believe the end of the year is here and that Christmas is THIS WEEKEND—a very Merry Christmas to those who celebrate 🙂 .
.
Have to say again, wasn’t it just February?
.
I know it wasn’t, and in fact, I’ve been spending some time reflecting on the year and all that’s moved forward. And also all that hasn’t.
.
I’m proud of what I accomplished. There’s also a lot I expected and planned to attend to this year, that didn’t get moved over the finish line or even close to it, let’s be real. And you know what, I’m really proud of that too.
.
Here’s my counsel on all of the above—Celebrate it ALL. All those wins! We don’t spend enough time savoring what went right, big and small. And let’s honor what didn’t work out too. BUT rather than beat ourselves up for falling short, I vote we instead consider it a key opportunity. Looking carefully at what didn’t work offers a roadmap to project, plan and goal-set differently going forward.
.
Missing marks is when we can really see the growth opportunities and can make CHANGE. Failing gets a bad rap. We can’t change anything until we become aware of what’s going on, and the gaps between where we want to be and where we ARE help us to effectively tighten everything up.
.
How are you reflecting AND celebrating this past year?
