There Was a Wall of Anxiety . . .

Literally. On a recent trip to Los Angeles.

I totally appreciated that wall (I mean, I snapped a picture). It cracked me up, and that day in particular, I pretty desperately needed a laugh. I’m sure I turned a head laughing out loud all alone on the street. I couldn’t care less; it was the exact right reset button at the exact right moment for me.

ANXIETY, extreme stress and overwhelm are currently showing up with most of my clients, and it isn’t just about politics or current events (although that’s certainly there too). I have had more than one client tell me they literally don’t feel like they have time to go to the bathroom, let alone eat during their workday which stretches on well into the evening. So forget meditation, yoga , exercise, or healthy eating.

I’m working on some quick and dirty, in-the-moment, grounding exercises as resets for these clients, and I’m keeping it real simple. Little things to quickly shift perspective.
For example:

 – Close your eyes. Take 3 deep breaths
– Stand up. 10 jumping jacks.
– In the bathroom mirror (when you can finally make it there), take a moment to look and smile at yourself in the reflection.

See, I told you tiny. But as you know, I’m a firm believer in starting where you are and going from there. Little actions are enough to set you on the right path. Remember: “The journey of a 1000 miles begins with a single step.”

The thing I like about small actions is that it mitigates the need to be anxious about your self-care. I know how adding “another thing” can really ramp up stress, so I highly advise keeping it teensy tiny. So, what small action of self-soothing can you commit to today?
